Do you have an RV you want to sell but it looks shabby or maybe things don't work. I have a Mobile RV sevice. I can get it all ready to sell or just get things fixed and ready for your next trip. I will come to you or you can come to me. I will fix most anything on your RV including interior cleaning and outside detailing. I can install your tow bar.I have paint and body experience, so it will be a clean job., drive shaft coupler, trailer lights, replace your batteries and check all systems before you take it on the road. I will coat or replace your rubber roof,Or maybe you need a sound system or a flat screen added. Screens replaced. Generator service, oil change. I will do minor engine repair at your location, alternator, water pump so on; I also have an upholstery shop so I can come pull your couch or chairs and have them recovered.

I have a small piece of heaven (land) in the Pipes Canyon area (near Pioneertown) and as I was out walking around yesterday at about 1 or 2 in the afternoon, I heard two huge thundering sounds. I first thought it was thunder but although there was some overcast, it did not seem like the type of clouds that would produce a storm.

I have heard military practice bombing from my place (I'm about 30-60 miles away from the bombing range or so I thought) but it is not usually so loud! My mind was racing, is this thunder? is this military practice? is the U.S. being attacked? We did see a few choppers fly over immediately after so we assumed all was ok. Or as ok as it can be in that situation.

Did anyone else hear this yesterday?

I finally picked up a small retro trailer to park on one of my properties... phase one of upgrading them... I'm looking for someone responsible to trailer-sit for free... yes, free. I would like someone to sit the property while I collect materials to fix up the cabin there.

This is for a middle to long-term situation, open-ended as needed / negotiable.

The trailer would be most suitable for someone like a climber, who wouldn't mind living alone, "burner-style". You would have to bring your own water for now, but I would pay for a porta-potty, and I can lend you a hot shower / water heater. No electricity at this time, but I may have it in by late spring. Cell-phone friendly -- my cell gets reception there no problem.

There are three neighbors near my five-acre property, and they are friendly and chill, but mostly keep to themselves. The Palms restaurant and saloon is a few miles down the road, and lots of artists in the neighborhood to hang out and visit.

Contact me soon - I move the trailer out there this weekend! :D

Polyrhythms from West Africa (Guinea and surrounding countries), played on Djembe, Dundun, Sanbang, etc. Use of authentic instruments would be cool, but I'd be open to using percussion from other cultures and traditions. I know how to do this (I studied with BabaTunde at the World Beat Center in San Diego) and can show you, or learn from you.
You should probably already be into drumming enough that you've got a drum, but you might join us as a novice as long as you can (really) keep a beat and have some musical sensibility. Previous experience playing with others seems important.
Once a week meeting here in central JT, with personal study in between is desired (by me ;-).
Since music is a performing art, we would perform at some point when we are so moved. Let me know off list if you're interested.
But if you or someone you know (maybe someone in the climbing community?) would like this sort of situation, please contact me. It could develop into a fairly long term situation, as I gradually improve both properties out there.

Hello. The reason I joined this tribe is for a little information....and to make sure my sister will be safe.... She left florida yesterday to become a nanny for a family she has never met before...somewhere in Yucca Valley. We both have never been there. Once she got there she became nervous (as am I) to find out that the house is 2hrs from lax and in an extremely desolate area that the owners of the house told her police couldn't ever find if they wanted to. She said they don't have cable, phones beside their own cells, and not even a store for 15minutes to a half an hour away. Considering she doesn't know these people or anyone in the area, I am hoping someone can give suggestions as to how to keep her safe. maybe nearby buses, trains, where to find a bus schedule, how to get out of town if she needs to or how to locate anything for that matter. Thank you so much, I am pretty nervous about the whole thing. My sister doesn't even drive.

Hooray! I've found a place to hang my shingle!
'S funny - some of the first people we were drawn to and met in JT were Randy Polumbo and Sheri Elf at their Art Queen gallery and Ralph at the Joshua Tree Music store. We had a great time at the HiDesert Test Sites 'after party' there. Now I've been calling around, stopping into various offices and asking all around for 'professional offices' or one to share, and finally someone last week, (I think it was someone thru the JT chamber) mentioned there was some space - where Ralph's store and the Art Queen are, right on Hiway 62 at Park. I made it up there this past Friday, ...and it's perfect! So I leased it on Saturday.
Randy owns the little group of 'cottages' and Ralph is the 'property manager'. Apartment #2 (now it'll be 'suite 2') is just the right size for my needs - a comfy space with a 'waiting room' and a 'consulting room', plus a small kitchen and bath! It's, um, funky, which will become 'comfy' and homey when we get it fixed up. I like having an office that feels more like a comfortable living room, with the idea that comfort is comforting. :-) I am really looking forward to being close to and involved with these creative conscious and musical artists.
Randy has a sculpture' right out front which features lit up dildos and butt plugs which gave me some pause thinking about how various clients might react, but, hey, it's art - and if it's an 'issue' for a visiting client, well, we'll talk about it! I mean, we've all got issues, right?
And how cool is it to have an office in the midst of two art galleries (featuring rubber chickens and 8-balls...), a crochetting museum and a bio-deisel station out back? I think it's a space that definately captures some of the spirit of Joshua Tree! And every friday night Ralph hosts a hoot out back. Welcome home to me!
So, I'll be painting and fixing and decorating over the next few weeks, and will be open for business beginning August 15th. I'll invite you all to come by and check it out around then (and I might call on some of you for some help in the meantime... assuming anyone is still reading this tribe?).
As a therapist, I really want to be a service to the community, as best I can - so I'll be offering a very adjustible fee scale, and offering to help do groups and so forth for some local agencies and clinics. I'll still take medi-cal and medi-care, and I'll still be on all the big health insurance companies 'approved provider lists', but I'd like to find a way to stop supporting the health insurance industry as much as possible.
If you've any ideas about where my services might be needed, as a therapist with over 20 years experience, a bent toward depth psychology and an ethic of compassion and understanding, please let me know. I love working with kids, as well as grown-ups, individually and as couples. Kinky will be changing my website too (www.doctoramos.com
I'll be keeping my practice going here in Escondido until my house sells, but I'm going to start there in the meantime, seeing people on Fridays (maybe saturdays) and Mondays. If that goes well enough, I may be able to live there full time even before this place sells. We'll see.
Thanks to all of you for this 'virtual' connection to my new home town.

Hello neighbors,

The County off-road vehicle ordinance will be reviewed by the Supervisors this Tuesday, August 21. Everyone who cares about controlling irresponsible ORV use must be there!

Ordinance 3973 has begun to turn the tide on ORV abuse in the Morongo Basin by restricting ORV trespassing and staging and by increasing enforcement. There is still much to be done, but it is critical that this major step forward not be reversed.

Opponents of the ordinance are promising to show up by the busload. They are putting a lot of pressure on the Supervisors to weaken or repeal the ordinance. If we are to keep the ordinance intact and effective, we must demonstrate strength through numbers. We are also encouraging folks to bring signs to increase our visual presence.

Community ORV Watch is arranging carpooling and also has a map link to the hearing on their Website, www.orvwatch.com. Also on the COW Website you will find Frequently Asked Questions, the text of the ordinance, and many more resources.

If you can't go on Tuesday, we ask that you call your Supervisor on Monday and tell him that you support the ordinance staying strong and intact.

Details, address, and phone numbers are below. See you there on Tuesday, August 21, 10 a.m.!
"Buttercup" is the official name of that sweet little solar-powered sculpture located towards the front of the Art Queen complex, that can be seen glowing so beautifully at night as you're driving down the 29 Palms Highway. Evidently it has caused a little consternation among unsuspecting locals and tourists (ie, scared the kids), because the sculpture is composed of a flowering variety of translucent butt plugs, dildos, and Ben Wa Balls.

It's a Randy Polumbo sculpture. Is it obscene? Is it art? Is it obscene art? To me it's art because if one simply observes it without culturally indoctrinated judgment, one can see that it is, in fact, quite beautiful.

Speaking of art - there is a sale going on at the new True Art Gallery located at the corner of Park and 29 Palms Highway in Joshua Tree. Some pretty cool original art on sale there now at 20% off the original list prices.

THE MEETING DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO AUGUST 21.

TRESPASS. HARASSMENT. NOISE. DUST.
Had enough?

Then you better get ready to roll up your sleeves and defend the law - or lose it!

The San Bernardino County off-road vehicle Ordinance is under attack by an aggressive rider group. They have successfully lobbied the Board of Supervisors to reconsider the ordinance and are advocating a radical new proposal that would gut it. Their proposal calls for the REMOVAL of the trespass provision and the REMOVAL of the staging provision. And what do they want to replace these critical provisions with? An education program. That's it. Hard to believe? See the text and an analysis of their proposal here.

The removal of these key provisions would essentially destroy the ordinance and send us right back to where we were two years ago, with no effective way for desert residents to prevent ORV trespass and to protect their property and the right to the peaceful enjoyment of their homes. Once again, law enforcement would be without the tools they need.

If you agree that we cannot afford to lose any of our progress and the excellent forward step provided by Ordinance 3973, then you need to get to work. All hands on deck! The Community ORV Watch steering committee cannot win this fight alone. It's going to take every resident who cares pitching in and helping out.

To keep Ordinance 3973 alive and working for you, here's what you gotta do:

1. The Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 21, in San Bernardino. You must be there. You must bring five if not ten friends with you. The rider groups are rallying to get hundreds there; we can't let them outnumber us. COW is arranging carpooling and can reimburse carpools for gas. Contact COW ASAP. Check for updates at www.orvwatch.com .

2. You must write and call the Supervisors NOW and tell them that the ordinance IS WORKING and to keep it strong and intact. You must get five if not ten friends to do the same. See a sample letter here. You can also print the sample letter out and distribute it to others to send in. Find Supervisor addresses/phone numbers below, at the bottom of this message.

3. You must help get the word out about the importance of this ordinance, the danger that it's in, and how others can help:
The COW Website has PRINTABLE FLYERS. Print one out, make some copies, and GET THEM OUT! They need to go to businesses, clubs, friends and neighbors, at swap meets - anywhere you can think of. If you need to be reimbursed for the cost of copying, contact COW. If you're shy but want to help, contact COW about a partner to do outreach with you. Letters to the editor have a BIG IMPACT and are desperately needed. Write today! And call in to radio talk shows. Arrange to have a presentation about Ordinance 3973 to your club, organization, or homeowner's group. Contact COW for a speaker. Post about this issue on blogs and forums.

4. Get signatures on the COW petition. It's printable from the Website here. We must have more signatures by August 1 than the opposition! Petitions need to be returned to COW by August 1; check the Website for pick-up and drop-off options.

5. Get the real story! Ordinance opponents have been aggressive in spreading misinformation. They are confusing people about what the ordinance really says and does. The only way to fight misinformation is with the facts. Educate yourself about the ordinance with COW's friendly Frequently Asked Questions. An informed advocate is a powerful advocate. Send the link on to others who care about this issue. The COW Website also has a PRINTABLE one-sheet Answers to Your Questions About Ordinance 3973 . Print this out, make copies, and get it to anyone who has questions or has been misled by ordinance opponents.

6. Forward this message to others who have been harassed by off-road vehicles in the San Bernardino County desert and are likely to benefit from Ordinance 3973. (But don't spam, please!)

7. Donate funds to COW to help with outreach, carpooling reimbursement, printing costs, etc.

8. There are many other ways to help. Need some direction? Have some ideas you'd like to pursue? Contact COW.

Ordinance 3973 is a fair and reasonable ordinance that was created by stakeholders including property owners, rider groups, and law enforcement. It's working! Let's keep it strong!

Contact your Supervisor:
Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt (District 1) -- (909) 387-4830
Supervisor Dennis Hansberger (District 3) -- (909) 387-4833
San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors
385 North Arrowhead Avenue, San Bernardino, California 92415-0181

Hearing on Ordinance 3973 is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at 385 No. Arrowhead Ave., San Bernardino.

Hearing dates are subject to change; check for updates at www.orvwatch.com

What a good time we had in JT this weekend. The people in this town just keep amazing me. We caught "Sugar Mountain Mamma Seranade" ( http://www.sugarmountainmamaserenade.com/About%20SMMS.html )at the beatnik, a "dynamic six-piece all women modern folk band", and those six girls were so much fun, with fri at the cafe then Sat at the Water Canyon Coffee shop being the first two stops on their 'soutwest USA tour'. Did you happen to see them, either this weekend or at the JT acoustic music fest during HiDesert Test Sites w/e? Kinky put up some pics from that show on a blog on the Beatnik Cafe site. http://www.jtbeat.com/
And the other great pleasure was the opening of the show, "Exquisite Clorpse Show" at the Red Arrow Gallery on Friday night. The resulting works of art were just amazing! If you don't know, this was a collaboration by (I believe) 39 local artists, using a surrealist technique dating back to 1925. They got together in 'teams' and each team did three 'paintings', one each of a head, a torso and legs, that are mixed and matched, with each artist just seeing like an inch of the part above or below what they're doing. Heck, I'm not describing it well, but it's explained better here: http://www.geocities.com/exquisitecorpseshow/howtoEC.html, and you can find info on Wikipedia if you search 'exquisite corpse' and of course on http://www.theredarrowgallery.com/ It will be there a while, so be sure to stop in and chek it out if you've a chance.
Kinky and I were bummed we didn't hear about it in advance to participate, but it looks like this will be the 'first annual' EC show.

Anyway, that's what's happening for us. I'm hoping this tribe will thrive and grow. I"ve been used to knowing people thru such on-line groups within the burning man community and others, and it really does help to get to know people in a much deeper way than 'only' in person. Here's hoping this will help with our community connections.

Like most of you, I'm here because I love the desert, and enjoy sharing info and stories about this special place. A year and a half ago, Ordinance 3973 was passed in San Bernardino County to control the damage and abuse caused by irresponsable off-road riding. The Sheriff supports it, as does county code enforcement. Large off-road interest groups such as CORVA and ORBA were in on the creation of the ordinance; responsable off-roaders understood that their future riding opportunities might be at risk without better controls on the abusive riders. Ordinance 3973 has been a success, based on input from law enforcement, homeowners, desert visitors, and responsable riders.

A small but vocal coalition of riders want to turn back the clock by overturning the ordinance. The desert could loose it's new found protection from abuse without your help! Please read on, and share this with anybody who cares about the future of this wonderful place!

Defend your rights!

San Bernardino County Ordinance gives you the right to take action against off-road vehicle trespass, harassment and excessive noise and dust. It also requires that large gatherings of ORV's must get a special use permit.

Ordinance 3973 is Working!

The Code Enforcement ORV Team and the Sheriff's Department report that Ordinance 3973 has given them the tools to deal with irresponsible riders and neighborhood nuisances effectively, reducing rider-resident conflict and drains on officer's time.

Ordinance 3973 is under review by the
County Board of Supervisors
NOW!

Defend the law or loose it!

Contact your Supervisor. Tell them that the ordinance is working and needs to be supported with no changes that would weaken it. Write and call! Contact info below. It is critical that the Supervisors hear from you!

Be at the public hearing. Opponents to the ordinance are expected to be there in force. Your presence is critical! Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the County Building in San Bernardino. Check orvwatch.com for updates and rides.

YOGA (squared)

~ Being in your Dharma ~

Many people are confused, depressed, lonely and sad because of not having chosen the correct path in life. Dharma in Sanskrit means: the Truthful Path.

Yoga2 allows you to find the path that is right for you-a path which will guide you into tranquilly, calms the mind, leads to a healthier lifestyle, closer relationships, and true happiness.

YOGA2 (Yoga squared)

Yoga is not only physical exercises or Hatha Yoga. Yoga is mind and body IN CONNECTION. When the mind is relaxed and the body is healthy you can truly enjoy life. Yoga2 takes you to the depth of yoga to experience joyfulness through connection of mind and body.

ABOUT BHARTI-MA

Bharti-ma is the founder of yoga2. Born in India, she's lived in the US for the last 30 years. She's a double graduate Microbiology and Medical technology.

Lotus Great System of Life Cultivation

Grand Master Wei Ling Yi is President of the World Qigong Head Office Association which organizes the World Qigong Congress and is also founder and chancellor of the first International Qigong University.

Qigong is an ancient system of life cultivation that focuses on using the original creative (Yi) power of the universe to promote personal good health, family harmony and world peace. Wei Ling Yi teaches the Lotus Great System of Qigong which is the highest form of qigong practice.

This path, called Yi Qi Da Dao, teaches how to blend the human and the heavenly energies and fuse them into one, uplifting the practitioner and those around them, as well as restoring beauty and illumination to all of nature.
Revs. Charla & Michael Shamhart
will not be presenting any Sunday talks during July, August and September
as we will be away for much of that time.

Watch for information in the fall about where we will be speaking.
Many have requested that we start another metaphysical Sunday service similar to the one we offered at The Sanctuary at Mentalphysics in Joshua Tree. We along with Rev. Anne DeMille are taking this into consideration.

Charla will also be offering a 9 week
Breath of Life Training
starting in October,
probably in both Yucca Valley and Palm Desert.
If you are interested, please let me know in advance.

*****************************************

There are many wonderful spiritual events happening in the desert.
I am mailing about most of them that I have information about.
I am sorry, but I CANNOT mail regarding events at Joshua Tree Retreat because of the political duress under which
Rev. Michael and I left The Institute of Mentalphysics/Joshua Tree Retreat Center.
If you receive emailings from them, it is because I left most of the contacts list I there for them when I left in June 2006.
Although Rev. Michael and I are no longer with The Institute of Mentalphysics, we are still Reverends in the Science of Mentalphysics.
I will not address this again, although many are still asking.
*************************************

Please feel free to forward these events on to your friends.

If you know of events that are happening IN THE DESERT, please feel free to send them to me at Events@DesertSpiritualEvents.com
Several of these groups sponsoring events have mailing lists of their own. Ask, if you are interested in particular offerings.

If you wish to be added to or deleted from this Desert Spiritual Events mailing list, please let me know.

I also send out to a list regarding Native American powwows in Southern California.
That list also receives mailings regarding CHEROKEE GATHERINGS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
There are 6 Cherokee groups now meeting in LA, Pomona, Orange Co., Riverside, San Diego and Bakersfield.
If you wish to be added to the POWWOW-CHEROKEE EMAIL LIST, please email me at Charla@DesertStarBooks.com

May you be blessed with abundant Light and Joy,

Unfortunately, Kinky has to work today (tonight), since the Hi Desert hospital has already given her time off for some other 'events' - (Xara and JT music Fest). Please send some love to my love up in JT, perhaps post a comment on her tribe profile.
The county's new ORV ordinance has given widespread relief to affected neighborhoods, but some off-roaders are unhappy with this turn of events. Off-roaders are sending hundreds of letters (many of which are fabricated) to the San Bernardino Board of Supervisors advocating for the repeal and weakening of the ORV ordinance.

The Supervisors have responded by recommending changes to the ordinance THAT WILL WEAKEN THE LAW by allowing for more ORVs per staging and make it easier to get special use permits with less opportunity to protest.

I'm headed to an art symposium I go to every year, called the Yuma Art Symposium, about 3 hours southwest of the hi-desert. It's smaller and more substantial artistically than burningman, and much less expensive.

For $125, you get 3 days of presentations, demonstrations, comradeies, campfires and a big barbeque dinner (included!) on Saturday night. It's even cheaper if you have any kind of student ID ($75), and you can camp for free in a designated area if you want to save money on lodging. :)

Here's the link to check out this year's presenters, they are always world-class professionals, in media ranging from jewelry making and sculpture, to painign, photography and environmental art.

If you want to carpool or caravan, contact me :)

Also, there is a cute tradition they have of making any sort of pin or brooch (or anything else you wish to make to gift / trade) and trade these with others on Thursday afternoon, at the official start of the event.
